Salinas, CA (1888PressRelease) October 19, 2012 - Fifth Annual "Sabu's Safari - Old Hollywood Gala" Special Fund-Raising Event Benefits The Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula Corps In Memory of Sabu Shake, S. And Surpasses The Event's Million Dollar Mark for Donations!

The 5th Annual "Sabu's Safari - Old Hollywood Gala" special fund-raising event, that was held on September 29th, sold out quickly again this year. It raised $164,650.00, surpassing last year's donations, and exceeding the million dollar mark in total donations over the event's past five years benefiting The Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula Corps. Over 330 attendees were treated to a fabulous night of dinner, dancing, casino, silent and live auction at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa.

Sabu Shake, Sr., (www.sabushakesr.org) a well known restaurateur and philanthropist, passed away fourteen years ago. The Shake family continues to honor him with this very special charitable celebration in partnership with The Salvation Army Monterey Peninsula Corps.

Shake., "Sabu's Safari was again a huge success this year raising $164,650 to benefit The Salvation Army of the Monterey Peninsula in memory of Sabu Shake, Sr. We were overwhelmed with the generosity of our community, business associates and friends with so many donated items for this year's auction. It is through the thoughtfulness and generosity of our community members that enable us to carry on this important tradition in the memory of our Dad, Sabu Shake, Sr. and continue to raise substantial funds for this important cause. We were thrilled to surpass the $1 million mark this year! We all value supporting The Salvation Army, an organization that makes a huge difference in the lives of those in need in our region."

Sabu's Safari showcased talented chefs from the Shake's family restaurants as well as guest chefs from other local establishments, providing an outstanding dinner, fine wines, and an amazing array of desserts. Live auction items included getaways to Napa Valley, Puerto Vallarta, Palm Springs, Italy, Kona, Hawaii and much more.
