Federal Government Announces an Early Cut to the Solar Credits Multiplier
All those who are considering installation of solar panels will have to hurry up as the Government has announced on 16 November 2012, that it is completely phasing out the solar credit multiplier 6 months early - meaning that popular solar panel subsidy will be reduced by 50%.
- (1888PressRelease) December 11, 2012 - The Federal Government announced on November 16 2012, that it will terminate the solar credits multiplier 6 months early, which means the popular solar subsidy will be reduced by 50%. There are two facets of this decisions as mentioned below:
- Where a contract to purchase a system has been entered into prior to the 16 November 2012, the installation needs to occur before June 13, 2012.
- For any contract signed on or after 16 November 2012, the installation needs to occur before 1 January 2013, in order to be eligible for the current subsidy level.

Minister of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Greg Combet, said the decision has been made in order to lower the impact of the high uptake of solar PV on electricity costs for homes and businesses.
