Fat Chimp Studios Gives Aspiring Young Producers Their First Shot at Stardom
Team members become mentors for tomorrow's production professionals.
- (1888PressRelease) May 13, 2014 - Attending every high school is an aspiring Steven Spielberg, Steve McQueen or Kathryn Bigelow. The only thing holding these students back from achieving their dreams is knowing how to turn their incredible talents into promising careers.
Fat Chimp Studios, a local St. Louis video production company, recently partnered with the nonprofit College Bound to provide an in-studio workshop for area high school students interested in digital media and video production careers. College Bound provides students from under-resourced backgrounds with academic enrichment, social supports and life skills to succeed in college. One way the organization accomplishes its objectives is to connect students to caring professional mentors like those at Fat Chimp.
"Our goal was to give the kids a sense of what the industry is about. We wanted to show them the entire process from script to completion so they could learn the different parts that make up a produced piece. We also exposed them to all the possible career opportunities available." said Fat Chimp senior editor, John Starks, who helped coordinate the workshop.
During the four-hour session at the Fat Chimp Studios, 12 students became fully immersed in both pre- and post-production to create a professional medical video. With script in hand, the students performed the scene before working side-by-side with Fat Chimp audio engineers, producers, videographers, graphic designers, and editors to put their own creative touches to the finished piece. For many wannabe producers, it was the first time they have been able to get up close and personal with the equipment and skills needed to bring their ideas to life.
"It was pretty awesome learning about the numerous video production services," wrote one junior from Maplewood-Richmond Heights High School. "I also enjoyed being taken through the entire video creation process from production to completion. Luckily I got the chance to do the voiceover for our College Bound hospital clip. I swear I thought I was Morgan Freeman for a second when I was in the audio room recording my voiceover. I just want to say thank you for giving students like me the opportunity to job shadow the most amazing studio in St. Louis!"
The College Bound program is just one more way Fat Chimp Studios reaches out to the St. Louis community, opening doors and opportunities for those who can benefit from our services and expertise. For more information on College Bound, visit www.collegeboundstl.org.
