  • Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) January 17, 2013 - In support of Farmacopeia's two-day Pioneers in Ecological Medicine training, being held February 1 & 2 in Chicago, a nonprofit fundraising campaign has begun to raise donations on Indiegogo.com. Donations go to support farmer education and scholarships, educational materials development, training seminars, and expert facilitators training on how to grow and market East Asian medicinal herbs. Over the long-term, donations will enable the establishment of a resource for growers, practitioners, and herb consumers, and the forging of a vital interdependent local economy of ecological medicine.

In return for their contributions, donors are treated to an array of "perks", or incentives, as a thank-you. For example, donors giving $200 are entitled to custom-made postcards, reusable shopping bags, and sample packages of sustainably sourced, pesticide-, chemical-, and heavy metal-free herbs to make into a refreshing and nourishing tea. "We want our funders to feel like they are contributing to something important, something with purpose. The perks are more just reminders of this bigger picture, and are a small taste of what's to come of our collective effort," says George Leung, the campaign's coordinator.

Farmacopeia will be collecting donations by credit card through February 8 at: www.indiegogo.com/Farmacopeia. For more information on the Pioneers in Ecological Medicine workshop, visit www.innerecology.com/PEM.
