- (1888PressRelease) July 25, 2012 - BASTROP, Texas - This September, Michael Olson, author of MetroFarm (Ben Franklin Book of the Year finalist) and executive producer and host of the syndicated Food Chain Radio talk show, will explain how individuals can "eat their way to economic and personal freedom" by taking the 2x2 Pledge.
Olson's keynote speech kicks off the Sixth Annual Farm and Food Leadership Conference, a two-day event that begins Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Bastrop Convention Center. The conference, which has grown in attendance each year, is organized by the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance (FARFA).
Other speakers include Patty Lovera of Food and Water Watch covering the latest news on the Farm Bill, Howard Vileger of Verity Farms speaking about the problems with genetically engineered foods, and sustainable farmers and chefs discussing what "local" means. Topics such as the animal welfare controversy, health freedom, local foods initiatives, and more will round out the first day's discussions.
The second day of the event will feature in-depth workshops on activism and how individuals can be effective in impacting the policies that govern our agricultural and food systems.
Early bird registration (before August 1) fees are $45 for Monday and $30 for Tuesday. After August 1, registration fees will be an additional $15 for each day.
