Facebook Owner Mark Zuckerberg Seriously Considering Facebook Search Engine Reports NukeBoost.Com
Social Networking Site To Incorporate More Features.
- (1888PressRelease) September 21, 2012 - San Francisco, CA - Mark Zuckerberg announced that he wants Facebook to have a search engine feature in it. In the vein of competition with Google, Zuckerberg's announcement makes Facebook a full experience and not just a social networking site.
Greenlight Digital created a survey from 500 people from diverse backgrounds and walks of life. The survey was intended to see if people were interested in a Facebook search engine and would use it over the more popular brands like Google or Bing. Only 5% said "definitely," with 26% saying "no."
500 people does not compare to the massive number of users on Facebook, and thus the study is a small-scale of what this search engine could really harness in terms of power in the technological community.
Still, one cannot predict the success of a feature like this, as it was the case with Google Plus, in which few foresaw success. Even so, 5% of the billions on Facebook is not a small number to consider if the study is a direct reflection of what this search usability could be.
Andreas Pouros, Greenlight's COO, comments, "It wouldn't need to be a spectacular engine either, just well integrated into the Facebook experience and generally competent. This 22% market share would make Facebook the second most utilised search engine in every major market except for China, Japan, and Russia, where it would occupy an uncontested third place."
Regardless of the hard numbers, Facebook's endeavors would likely find success out of sheer strength in numbers of users. One will have to wait and see to what extent these success and strength would tie in with the site's popularity.
