About Bauer Advising - Bauer Advising was formed by Joseph W. (Joe) Bauer, following his retirement from a global Fortune 500 chemical company as a member of senior management and the company's chief legal officer for nearly 20 years. Mr. Bauer was accountable for both legal affairs and the procurement and quality of all of the corporation's property, casualty, and directors and officers insurance. And throughout his career, he developed an interest in alternative legal fees and applied them in a majority of the legal matters facing the company-from litigation matters to M&A transactions. The concept of "enterprise risk management" (ERM) came of age during his tenure as a general counsel. His company's C-Suite concluded that an important-even central-platform of ERM should be the reliable transfer of unavoidable risks through insurance contracts, and that this function warranted discipline, and more C-Suite attention. The company wanted more collaboration between expert internal groups, and less "turnkey" reliance on outside brokers for decisions on content and price.
Formation of Bauer Advising was prompted by two realizations: (1) the quality of insurance designed to protect an enterprise is critical to true risk management, but is often underserved in large companies; and (2) companies and law firms alike can benefit from alternative fee arrangements, but need help in devising their structures. In providing its services, Bauer Advising draws on a developed network of insurance and legal industry resources and experts. The capabilities and offerings of these resources are explained to companies by Bauer Advising. But as an independent advisor, it offers companies unvarnished views and assessments, normally presented in person and concisely, without the pressure of a presentation from providers of insurance products or legal services. If you choose to bring in additional resources and expertise, Bauer Advising can facilitate their introduction and, if you choose, assist in managing their utilization.
