Ex Convicts' Web Series Delivers Powerful Message For Youth
Three ex convicts who were youthful offenders have come together to give back and educate the youth through art. They created a web series that is entertaining for the youth and ingeniously slips in an educational PSA on gun violence and murder.
- (1888PressRelease) May 26, 2016 - Brooklyn, NY - The real streets of some of Brooklyn's worst neighborhoods are depicted in this "reel" life film series for the web. It is authentic in its content and at times very graphic to capture the reality of the streets. The story is based on the life of a young woman who is forced to make hard choices in her life after the unfortunate death of her father. One of the decisions involves a man she has just met. As the story develops it takes a hard stance on gun violence, a harsh but sad reality in a lot of the poorer neighborhoods in our community in Brooklyn and cities across the United States.
The Other Side of Brooklyn is not short on its cast of diverse characters who each have their own individual dilemmas they face throughout the story. The lives of the characters are all seamlessly intertwined together to produce enough street drama and suspense to keep you engrossed in the story. Street life is introduced in its rawest form giving you a clear line of sight of what goes on in these communities; things hidden from the public. The behavior of the characters contributes to the authenticity that surrounds the story.
The graphic scenes displayed in the series are distressing but poignant because it depicts one of most horrendous and heartbreaking community plague: Gun Violence. 11206 Productions decided to take responsibility and educate its viewers on the growing epidemic of black on black crime and gun violence that result in the murders of our youth and innocent victims. A Public Service Announcement (PSA) for Black Lives Matters airs directly after the episode and sends an educational as well as emotional message to everyone. 11206 Productions is directly associated with peace4peace.org, an organization that was founded to reduce youth-on-youth violence and violent behaviors in neighborhoods in Brooklyn, NY.
