EWD Derendingen and Swisscom sign fibre-optic partnership agreement
The expansion of the fibre-optic network in Derendingen, Solothurn, has moved into the next phase: EWD (Derendingen electricity and water supply) and Swisscom have signed a partnership agreement. By the end of 2013, all homes in Derendingen will be directly connected to the high-speed fibre-optic network.
- (1888PressRelease) August 21, 2012 - After a short negotiation period of a few months, EWD and Swisscom signed the final version of the partnership agreement for the joint expansion of the fibre-optic network for homes and businesses (Fibre to the Home, FTTH). The partners will connect all 3,000 homes and businesses in Derendingen to the high-speed fibre-optic network by the end of 2013. The partnership will allow the network to be built at significantly lower cost. Four fibres will be laid per connection, which allows competition in the joint network and ensures that is open and free from discrimination to all service providers, in line with recommendations from the Federal Communications Commission (ComCom). Each partner will take on half of the basic connection costs.
"Thanks to the good collaboration between EWD and Swisscom, Derendingen will gain rapid and efficient access to ultra-high-speed Internet", says Michael Käsermann, Chairman of the Board of EWD. Heinz Herren, Head of Network & IT at Swisscom, adds: "The partnership with EWD goes to show that FTTH can be expanded through collaboration, even outside of major urban centres." From 2013 onwards, the first Derendingen customers will be able to make use of attractive telephony, Internet and TV offers via the new network.
