Eugene Remm, Mark Birnbaum and Michael Hirtenstein, partners of New York hospitality powerhouse company EMM Group, own and operate several of the most popular restaurants and nightlife venues in NYC including CATCH, Abe & Arthur's, Lexington Brass, CATCH ROOF, SL and TENJUNE. Most recently, EMM Group has launched their newest project in the Lower East Side at 199 Bowery and The NY Post says they've got the "Bow Factor" as the Bowery is now buzzing with the next big thing in New York nightlife.
If you're in the hospitality business and want to open a new hot spot in the most cutting-edge neighborhood, here are three clues that you're headed in the right direction. First, you find a location large enough to separate into three different properties under one roof, think 20,000 square feet. Then, you surround yourself with neighboring bars and restaurants that have well-known chefs and owners to add buzz by association. Lastly, you consider the landscape of the neighborhood's residential real estate market and see the large numbers. According to these requirements, EMM Group founders Eugene Remm, Mark Birnbaum and Michael Hirtenstein have accomplished just that with their new project on the Bowery. The ground floor of EMM Group's 199 Bowery building is home to FINALE, an electronic music and performance based nightlife experience. FINALE features a central DJ booth, sophisticated sound system and raised seating around the outer edges of the room for observing the crowd. Also on the street level entrance is a new restaurant called The General, a 300 seat modern Asian concept inspired by various styles of Asian cuisine led by Top Chef Season 3 Winner and Executive Chef Hung Huhyn. Below the restaurant you can find the Jazz Room at The General, an additional dining room where guests can enjoy The General's full dinner menu while experiencing live jazz music and performance in an exclusive setting.
EMM Group's Eugene Remm was set on doing several different concepts in one property. The Lower East Side and especially the Bowery are trending to be one of the next big neighborhoods for NYC's hospitality business and nightlife scene. The opportunities for growth and expansion on the Bowery remind EMM Group co-owner Eugene Remm a lot of Manhattan's Meatpacking District back in 2006 when the company opened their first nightclub TENJUNE, followed by Abe & Arthur's and SL in 2009 as well as CATCH and CATCH ROOF in 2011.
