EU is best placed to prevent recession, says poll
New research suggests that the actions of the European Union are seen as the best chance the continent has of avoiding a recession.
- (1888PressRelease) December 24, 2011 - The Autumn 2011 Eurobarometer survey, conducted by the European Union, shows that 23% of Europeans believe the EU to be best placed to resolve the financial crisis.
National governments came second on the list with 20% of the vote, while the G20 polled 16% and the International Monetary Fund just 14%.
Overall, most Europeans are happy with their household finances, with 61% describing them as "good". However, there is a wide disparity between countries, with 90% of Swedes being pleased with their monetary situation, compared to just 24% of Greeks.
The study also showed that most Europeans are now beginning to understand that the effects of the financial crisis will be felt for some time. Only 23% of those polled believe that its impact on employment levels has peaked.
