  • (1888PressRelease) February 22, 2025 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 026.25, summarizing the European Commission’s (EC) harmonization, with restrictions, of three EN 18031 standards for the Radio Equipment Directive (RED).

The EC’s references to the three new harmonized EN 18031 standards with restrictions were published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) on January 28, 2025. If these harmonized standards are applied in full, manufacturers can demonstrate regulatory compliance by offering a self-declaration and avoiding the involvement of a Notified Body.

It should be noted that the EN 18031 series of standards can only be considered harmonized if there are no applicable restrictions to the product. If there are applicable restrictions, certification from a Notified Body must be obtained before the product is marketed.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 026.25 includes further helpful information on how to understand the restrictions under EN 18031.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 026.25 for more details.
