EU Amends Standard for Pushchairs and Prams
SGS publishes overview of amendment A1 to standard EN1888-1 on pushchairs and prams.
- (1888PressRelease) June 28, 2022 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is advising stakeholders that the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) has issued amendment A1 to its standard for pushchairs and prams intended for children up to a weight of 15 kg – EN1888-1:2018.
Published in April 2022, the amendment to the standard was prepared to correct some technical mistakes and improve/clarify some requirements and tests. These include updates to definitions, adjustments to a clause relating to locking mechanisms, and corrections to a pictogram and a table of translations for warning sentences.
Changes affecting product conformity include updates to a clause on chemical hazards, a redrafted clause on the hazard of loops, and modifications to the bite test performed to check the resistance of the bumper bar to biting. A requirement relating to swivel wheels has also been deleted.

European National Standard organizations bound to CEN/CENELEC rules must withdraw conflicting standards by October 2022.
