EU Allows Phenylene Bis-Diphenyltriazine as a UV Filter in Some Cosmetics
The EU has amended Annex VI to Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, allowing the use of Phenylene Bis-Diphenyltriazine as a UV filter in some cosmetics.
- (1888PressRelease) July 06, 2019 - The European Commission has allowed another UV filter to be incorporated into some cosmetic products. From May 22, 2019, manufacturers have been allowed to use Phenylene Bis-Diphenyltriazine – 3,3’-(1,4-Phenylene)bis(5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazine) – in sunscreens and other cosmetics products up to a maximum concentration of 5%.
The decision, published on April 30, 2019 as Regulation (EU) 2019/680, follows opinion SCCS/1594/18 of the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS), issued on July 30, 2018. Annex VI to Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 has accordingly been amended.
Stakeholders should be aware that this provision only applies to dermally applied products and does not cover products where there is a risk of inhalation.
