Estes Audiology Will Loop the Palace Theatre of Georgetown in October
First Theatre in Central Texas to Adopt and Install New Induction Loop Technology for the Hearing Impaired.
- Austin-San Marcos, TX (1888PressRelease) October 13, 2011 - Induction loop technology for the hearing impaired is becoming a reality in Central Texas through the efforts of Estes Audiology.
On October 12, Estes Audiology installed induction loop technology at the Palace Theatre - a non-profit performing arts theatre in Georgetown. This installation of "looping" will establish the Palace as the first theatre in Central Texas with such advanced technology, following the successful installation of induction looping at the Georgetown City Council and the Georgetown Public Library by Estes Audiology. The adoption of this new technology is slowly increasing public access in Central Texas for those with hearing loss.
"For individuals using hearing devices, hearing in public facilities remains a challenge due to problems of distances and background noise or reverberation," stated Soriya Estes, AuD, owner and founder of Estes Audiology Hearing Centers of Georgetown, New Braunfels, San Marcos, and Boerne. "The reality is that if you cannot hear a performance, you will not go back to that theatre."
"Within a 'looped' environment, a person wearing telecoil enabled hearing aids can hear much better as sounds are received directly into the hearing aids with no additional wires, neckloops, or accessories. With this installation, the theatre-goer with a hearing disability can now hear what is happening on stage and thus will keep coming back time and time again. We are so excited that the Palace is taking the initiative in Central Texas to install this advanced technology for its patrons."

The installation of this technology is a community effort through the generous donations of the Sertoma Club, the Lola Wright Foundation, the Chaparral Women's Group, and Estes Audiology.
The Palace is actively removing barriers for those with visual and hearing deficits. Besides this installation of looping equipment, the Palace Theatre also uses audio descriptors for the visually impaired at selected shows, thus allowing those with visual impairments to understand what is going on onstage. Audio descriptors were made available at the Palace through the VSA Texas - the international organization for Arts and Disabilities.
Induction looped technology allows a listener who is wearing a hearing aid equipped with telecoil to hear much better, especially in a public place. Induction loop technology is superior to other wireless transmission technologies because it produces high-quality sound while alleviating background noise in a large room.
This technology is currently being used throughout Europe - even in taxis and drugstores - and it is slowly gaining acceptance in the US.
