Erminesoft's iOS developer Vlad Soroka found hidden possibilities of Apple TV remote control
Vlad Soroka, the winner of Ukrainian Mobile Development Championship and iOS Team Lead at Erminesoft, discovered a developer task, for which Apple had not provided any clear solution.
- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) November 10, 2016 - Apple TV 4 micro console was released in September, 2015, and Erminesoft's iOS developers darted exploring and applying possibilities offered by it. It should be noted that there is little documentation on tvOS, so after 2 month of creating an application for Apple TV, Vlad Soroka discovered something interesting in operation of Siri Remote.
Siri Remote is a brand new remote control device for 4th Generation Apple TV console. Thanks to accelerometer and gyroscope embedded in it, this console serves not as a remote control device, but as a gaming controller as well, which interacts with the interface with the help of multi-touch gestures.
While there are facilities for establishing several tasks for one zone (left and right parts of touchable area), Apple documentation mentions only one of them (putting finger to it). The task was to obtain various actions while touching this or that part of console's surface. Vlad discovered this feasibility in the context of observing video options.
In fact, the console could imply and react on more preset actions than the manufacturer claimed. While Apple did not provide developers with obvious solution, Vlad's dedication and explorative mindset allowed resolving this hidden challenge. Technical details and solution suggested by Vlad are shared with the community, contributing to common goal in widening digital horizons and inspiring for creation of better software products.
