(1888PressRelease) June 02, 2017 - Since the placing of the first plaque at City Hall in August of 2014, the list of Blue Plaque sites around Yangon has grown to currently number 18 in total. The newest addition came earlier this month in the form of the neoclassical style Yangon Stock Exchange, built in 1939 and which was formerly the Union Bank of Burma.

Also becoming Blue Plaque sites so far in 2017 were the prestigious BEHS (6) Botahtaung, formerly known as St. Paul's High School and as one of Yangon's oldest schools was once part of the mission compound that encompassed the country's biggest Roman Catholic cathedral, and Bogyoke Aung San Market which since its opening in 1926 has been a place to shop for clothes, art supplies and souvenirs and also a place to hang out in the evening.

With the Blue Plaque project, the Yangon Heritage Trust aims to draw attention to both the known and the forgotten histories of Yangon by recognizing key historic buildings and renowned residents that have contributed to the narrative of the city. Plaque signage is in Burmese and English.
