Ending Police Violence Against Our Dog's
This is a Kickstarter project that is looking to provide police with training that will help to prevent dog's being shot and killed for no reason.
- San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) June 10, 2016 - Professional dog trainer and founder of BrightDog Academy Alex Antoniazzi, ABCDT announced today that he is raising funds via crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to create an online web portal for law enforcement departments that will provide them with training on handling dogs in the field as well as a dog directory system.
Law enforcement violence towards our dog's has becoming a real issue. According to Laurel Matthews, a supervisory program specialist with the Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office, she calls fatal police vs dog encounters an "epidemic" and estimates that between 25 and 30 pet dogs are being killed each day by law enforcement officers. Conversely, the average number of people being killed each day by law enforcement is 2.6, which means that 1053% more dogs are being fatally shot.
This Kickstarter project aims to address the underlying problem to these incidents which is that most police departments and law enforcement officers do not receive training when it comes to dog behavior and how to interact with dogs. If this project is funded, Alex Antoniazzi wants to create an entire training course complete with videos, articles, graphics, and more, that any law enforcement agency will be able to access to provide training to their officers.
Here are just some of the topics that will be included:
• How to read a dog's body language
• How to talk to a dog
• How to approach dogs
• How to assess a dog involved scene
• How to assess the risk to yourself or others
• Predicting what the dog will do next
• Self defense against dogs
• Non-lethal solutions to dog aggression
The second part of the portal will go towards creating a live directory where dog owners can create a profile for their dog and then link it to their home address. When an officer get called to a house, they can very quickly pull up the profile for that address and see the information that the home owner has provided such as:
Dog's Name:
Breed:
History Of Aggression:
Access To Backyard:
Notes About The Dog:
By providing a police officer with this kind of information, they will have an idea as far as what to expect, and will be better prepared to handle the situation upon arrival.
