Empire State Building lit in brilliant orange, to recognize Gift of Life Marrow Registry and honor Wendy Siegel
In honor of Wendy and Stephen Siegel and their efforts in expanding the Gift of Life Marrow Registry, the Empire State Building was lit up in a brilliant orange yesterday. For 25 years, the non-profit and the Siegels have worked to cure blood cancer through marrow and stem cell donations. On June 2, Gift of Life will hold their annual gala in New York City to celebrate their success.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) June 02, 2016 - The tower lights of the iconic Empire State Building were shining brilliant orange yesterday to honor the life-saving efforts made by New York City resident Wendy Siegel through Gift of Life Marrow Registry, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Siegel - wife of Stephen Siegel, chairman of Global Brokerage at CBRE, the world's largest commercial real estate services company - was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in 2012 and, like many others with this disease, needed a match for a life-saving bone marrow transplant.
At the time of Wendy's illness, Stephen was instrumental in organizing outreach efforts to register new prospective donors to Gift of Life Marrow Registry. Since that time, the Siegels have raised significant funds for processing donor kits across the U.S. To date, their efforts have resulted in more than 21,000 sponsored donors, 265 matches, and 31 transplants.
On June 2, Gift of Life - a non-profit committed to curing blood cancer through marrow and stem cell donations -- will hold its annual gala on 6 p.m. at the Grand Hyatt New York.
