EMLab P&K Microbiologist Discovers New Species of Ellisembia Fungus, Published in Mycotaxon
Microbiologist from EMLab P&K's Phoenix microbiology laboratory discovers new species of fungus in southwestern Florida. Peer-reviewed article about Ellisembia mercadoi sp. nov. is published in Mycotaxon.
- (1888PressRelease) October 15, 2013 - EMLab P&K is pleased to announce that Mycotaxon has published a peer-reviewed article authored by Gregorio Delgado, a microbiologist from EMLab P&K's Phoenix laboratory. The article appears in Mycotaxon, volume 123 (2013) and is entitled "South Florida Microfungi: A New Species of Ellisembia (Hyphomycetes) with New Records from the USA."
The peer-reviewed article describes and illustrates Ellisembia mercadoi sp. nov., collected on dead leaves of Sabal palmetto in southwestern Florida. The article also discusses similarities and differences with morphologically related species within the genus and reports five other fungi for the first time from the USA.

Gregorio Delgado has a Master's Degree in Botany and Mycology and 14 years experience in environmental microbiology with taxonomic expertise in microfungi. Mr. Delgado has worked at EMLab P&K for more than 8 years where he performs microbiological analysis to identify fungi, molds and other biological particles. Mr. Delgado has extensively published and been credited with the discovery of numerous fungal species and two genera from his research.
