LA Children's Book Authors Elle Febbo and Laura Marlowe to Boggle for Books at Union Station for RIFSoCal Celebration and Fundraiser for Youth.
- (1888PressRelease) May 16, 2012 - It's the world's only Boggle tournament on Saturday, May 19, at art deco Fred Harvey Room at Union Station. The guest list is long for this year's 40th Anniversary Celebration, and two of those guests are sure to enjoy the Carnival-Style fun. Children's books authors Elle Febbo and Laura Marlowe, both advocates for children's literacy and the RIFSoCal mission to provide age-appropriate at-home libraries to underserved youth, will be Boggling for Books in this years 3rd annual fundraiser.
Reading Is Fundamental of Southern California (RIFSoCal) - the L.A. organization that helped spark a nationwide reading revolution - is celebrating a milestone birthday. Planned is an evening of carnival-style festivities with a special focus on founding member Marva Shearer, as well as RIF kids past and present.
The night will also honor Ronald McDonald House Charities with a Hero Award, for their continuing support of RIFSoCal's book distributions, which provide brand-new books of choice to 100,000 under-served children in the Los Angeles area every year. Shearer will receive the Julie Cooke Humanitarian Award in memory of the RIFSoCal past Board member who served as long-time vice president of the Book Program.
The best selling award winner, "What Love Is A-Z", written and created by Febbo, and "Tommy the Throwaway Dog" written and created by Laura Marlowe, have both raised funds and awareness for multiple children's welfare organizations, as well as animal rescue groups and both authors are dedicated to their work empowering and strengthening the lives of children, one book of choice at a time.
Reading Is Fundamental of Southern California (RIFSoCal) is an early childhood literacy organization dedicated to promoting literacy and motivating children to read by building age-appropriate at-home libraries for underserved children in Greater Los Angeles. They have recently lost all federal funding and invite the public to lend their support by attending special events such as these.
