Elite Ice Hockey Returns to Hong Kong as the CIHL Kicks Off its Fourth Season
The CIHL, China's first elite full contact ice hockey league kicked off its fourth season on Saturday with a fast paced, action packed double-header in front of fans at Mega Ice in Kowloon Bay.
- (1888PressRelease) October 17, 2014 - With over 1,000 hockey players of all levels across Hong Kong, the demand for high-level hockey continues to grow. The CIHL is continuing to raise the bar for ice hockey in Hong Kong by providing a platform for talented juniors as well as Hong Kong National Team players to continue to develop their talents along side top foreign players from the U.S., Canada and Europe.
In partnership with new league sponsor Quam Financial Services the CIHL began its fourth season this past Saturday, with the RBC South China Sharks handily controlling the Quam Hong Kong Tycoons by a score of 4-1. In the second game the AsiaXPAT Kowloon Warriors easily defeated the shorthanded Galaxy Macau Aces 5-0, behind a shut out performance from goal tender Loron Orris.
The night's festivities began with a ceremonial puck drop by John Luciw of AsiaXPAT, team sponsor of the Kowloon Warriors - the ceremony was attended by Canadian Consul General Ian Burchett and League Founder Greg Smyth.
In addition to on ice action the CIHL has continued its community initiatives, helping to grow Hong Kong's emerging hockey community. The Disney Shootout gives children the opportunity to come onto the ice and experience the game first hand. While the RBC adopt a school program gives children of all ages a chance to participate in CIHL games and enjoy a school visit by CIHL players.
The CIHL is proud to announce the continuation of the CIHL Intern Program. This year welcomes Jeff Ceccacci, Brad Smith and Andrew Shipley, Ceccacci and Shipley with the Galaxy Macau Aces and Smith with the Quam Hong Kong Tycoons, respectively. The program combines CIHL hockey with a seven-month internship at a Hong Kong company and youth coaching.
The CIHL resumes play next Saturday, October 11th, with the Galaxy Macau Aces facing off against the Hong Kong Tycoons in the first of the nights double header followed by a match up between week one winners the RBC South China Sharks and the AsiaXPAT Kowloon Warriors.
The 2014-2015 season runs through March 14th with all games taking place on Saturday nights at the Mega Ice, L/10 MegaBox, Kowloon Bay. Every night features a two game double header, with the first game beginning at 8:15pm and the second at 9:35pm.
Season ticket packages are on sale now. With both fan packs and four-person family packs available. Individual game night tickets are on sale for HK $150.
