Elite Closer Robbie Andrews Signs With All-Star Sports
All-Star Sports Management adds right-handed top closer Robbie Andrews to its roster of clients.
- Richmond-Petersburg, VA (1888PressRelease) January 18, 2011 - Robbie Andrews, one of the top right-handed closers, signs with All-Star Sports Management to represent him with his future Major League Baseball hopes. As a Virginia Commonwealth University product, Robbie was a free agent with the Arizona Diamondbacks after the 2010 baseball draft.
Andrews combined statistics from the Coastal Plain League (2009) and this season are 49.1 innings, 43 appearances, 21 saves, 38 hits, .213 opp avg, 7 earned runs, 56 strike outs, 13 walks, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 0 home runs, 1.04 WHIP and 1.28 ERA. "Andrews not only went unscored on in 21 appearances for CPL champs, but walked no one in 19 regular-season IP." reported Perfect Game Crosschecker (ranked Andrews the 5th best performer among all 2009 summer leagues).
Andrews pitched for the Forest City Owls in the summer of 2009. The Owls won the Coastal Plain Championship and won the most games (51) of any summer league team in the country. The Owls were named the number 1 summer team in the country by Perfect Game Crosschecker. which also touted Andrews as the "Best Breaking Ball" pitcher among all pitchers in the CPL.
Amazingly, Andrews did not allow a run in 21 appearances and did not allow a walk until the postseason. In 22 innings, he struck out 31 and allowed only 14 hits. Overall, he had 13 saves for the Owls. He allowed only 2 extra base hits all season!
With his statistics and ability, it is no surprise that Andrews is a three-time summer league all-star (Valley League (2007-2008) and Coastal Plain League (2009). According to PG Crosschecker, he threw consistent strikes with his fastball pitch which was very effective when he combined it with the No. 1 offering in his arsenal-his slider, a dominating pitch with its late life. His development and major league destination is promising as he has the loose quick arm-action to add 2-3 MPH to his fastball as well as other great physical and mental attributes.
