  • (1888PressRelease) May 13, 2015 - Matrox® Graphics Inc. today announced that New Zealand's National Control Centres installed Matrox Extio™ KVM extenders to monitor the country's national power system. Recommended by value-added distributor WestconGroup, Extio F2408 KVM extenders help secure computing assets in a separate, secure environment to simplify system maintenance, while enabling power system operators with real-time monitoring and control on remote setups of up to 18 displays.

Matrox Extio F2408 KVM extenders minimize cabling and installation requirements for major deployments by transmitting keyboard, mouse and up to four displays all over a single dual-LC fiber-optic cable. Four additional displays can also be supported over the same cable by daisy-chaining an Extio F2408E Expander to the Extio KVM extender. Leveraging this practical design, the National Control Centres today uses a combination of Extio and Expander units to drive operator desks featuring up to 18 Dell™ UltraSharp™ displays, at resolutions of 2560x1600 per display. This provides power system operators with the necessary onscreen real estate to confidently oversee the power grid's 11,803 km (7,334 mi) of transmission lines, while assets remain stored in a separate machine room for convenient system maintenance.

"Matrox Extio KVM extenders allow desktop PCs to be located in a dedicated secure environment, simplifying desktop PC hardware replacement and allowing for the installation of rise/fall desks," said Andy Marsh, Project Manager at Transpower New Zealand Ltd. "Operators haven't noticed a difference over traditional graphics technology which was also a major consideration-the technology should be invisible."
