Toastmaster of the Year award symbolizes the demonstration of outstanding public speaking and leadership performance.
(1888PressRelease) October 26, 2010 - The "Toastmaster of the Year" award came as a delightful surprise to Elaine Love.
Toastmaster of the Year status is not something Elaine Love started out to achieve. "In fact, I never thought about it, to be honest," she said. "I spoke, promoted Toastmasters and participated very actively to share the marvelous benefits of this life-enhancing organization. Toastmasters has improved and expanded my life personally and professionally in so many ways. I want to extend that joyful experience to others. I started speaking to improve my ability to convey my message of "hope after adversity" to others. Little did I know at the time how much it would bring to my life personally and professionally. The communication track was my initial focus but the leadership track expanded my ability to serve others even more. In addition, Toastmasters has brought into my life some of the most wonderful people. We share a common goal; we have a burning desire to assist others in improving their lives."
"Sure I have spoken before…everyone has. I had to give constructive reviews to my staff, during the days when I was managing major corporations for other people. I took my duties very seriously, and was determined to give value to each employee and help them understand and develop their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. That was about the extent of my speaking. It did not even brush the surface of the tips and techniques taught in Toastmasters" Love stated.
Elaine was a single mom, juggling work, and raising 2 young boys. It was difficult enough to get everything done that was necessary. The luxury of sitting down and casually writing her thoughts and experiences on paper and then speaking them aloud to others was something she might do when she retired.
"I started writing procedures for my current business, because I found a need to share my knowledge and experience with my team members, and others. I had never written a formal speech to present the information orally." "I wanted to shorten their learning curve," stated Love.
The crux of her realization was that she DID have value to share, people needed a message of hope and recovery more now than any other time in her lifetime. "It was when I started my fifth and current business that I started doing training calls. I have had several successful businesses and still do have a very successful business. It requires energy, creativity, leadership, a clear mind, and a positive, genuine outlook and attitude toward life. I have a team of people counting on me for guidance. I take their success equally as seriously as my own. I coach, mentor, and train my team in numerous subjects, such as Personal Development, Mindset, Entrepreneurial training, and overcoming the mental obstacles from the past. I found myself writing articles and speaking on calls, and I am really enjoying it….to the point that I decided to study professional speaking. "
"I accepted the challenge of learning to effectively convey my thoughts through speaking only 22 months ago. I am making progress and have an insatiable desire to learn more. I am blessed with wonderful mentors such as Ed Tate, the 2000 World Champion of Public Speaking. I take the success and growth of myself and others seriously. My role as a leader is to model the behavior as we all reach for our goals. I vowed to make this a priority."
Elaine received notification of the "Toastmaster of the Year" award as she was serving as a judge at a Metro Division Toastmasters contest.' "I was so surprised, and honored", says Elaine. "I was totally unaware that I had even been nominated for such a prestigious award". These awards are conveyed for "walking the talk" in speaking and leadership. It is great honor to be chosen.
Receiving this honor certainly was not Elaine's motivation for speaking…. but she'll take it. "I discovered that I really do love speaking, and am finding that I have a talent for it. Who knew!" She laughed.
"I am committed to the success of others. If any of my speeches and leadership contributes to the success of others…then I've achieved my goal, and that makes me very happy," says Elaine.
For me, interviewing Elaine has been a delight. She has been a successful business woman for 31 years. With her values, ethics, drive, determination and commitment, I am sure she will continue her history of success for many, many years to come.
