El Hassan Business Park concludes "CleanTech Open" competition
In cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), El Hassan Business Park is organizing a closing ceremony this Wednesday to announce the winners of "CleanTech Open" competition.
- (1888PressRelease) October 17, 2011 - Amman - Hosted by the kingdom for the very first time, the competition aims at encouraging entrepreneurs to develop clean technology ideas that can be utilized as alternative solutions to protect the environment from the risks of industrial pollution.
In his comment, Eng. Omar Hamarneh CEO of El Hassan Business Park said: "Hosting this competition shows our commitment to develop and support entrepreneurship in the field of clean technology in Jordan. It also shows our commitment to protect the environment against pollution, which is a global concern that could result in disastrous consequences on all nations. As a national institution, El Hassan Business Park is urging Jordanians to be entrepreneurial, innovative and come up with viable solutions to reduce the risk of environmental pollution."
Eng. Hamarneh illustrated that the national competition in Jordan is part of the "Global Ideas Competition" to be hosted this November in San Francisco during the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2011. Jordan's first place winner will get the chance to compete internationally and win $100,000 in services to launch the idea.
Sponsored by the USAID, the competition targets various environmental issues such as air and water waste, energy efficiency, renewable energy, green building, smart power, green grid, energy storage and clean transportation.
For his part, Mr Laith Al Qasem, Chief of Party, Economic Development Program, funded by USAUD Jordan highlighted the importance of this competition, which acknowledges the entrepreneurial ideas, projects that resulted from the previous rounds. "Thousands of entrepreneurs participated from all over the world, presenting their ideas and the practical solutions they render."
"The jury will be reviewing, discussing and evaluating the submitted ideas, excluding those that do not comply with the set criteria. The concept that such criteria were based upon necessitate ideas are concise, clear, innovative, viable and sustainable. Once this is applied, 3 projects from the shortlist will be chosen and the winners will be announced. Each winner will receive a sum of $5000," Al Qasem added.
It is worth mentioning that governmental organizations, academic establishments, and non-profit organizations participate in the GEW to engage students, educators, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and others to assist them in adopting a culture of entrepreneurship and employ it to serve society. GEW is a global event organized in more than 100 countries around the world in the same week in November.
