Artist statement by Gail Benton:
As an artist, I walk through life and see beauty with a story to be told everywhere. Sometimes the beauty I see are in things that most people pass up. It could be an old building, barn, fence, bridge, old rusty car, pile of something left forgotten, or maybe just a spot of light hitting in a special way. Then again it could be something really beautiful that just says paint me. For me all of it has something to say….Through my artwork I try to bring, what each little part of life is saying to me, through the light, color, shadow, shape, emotion and hopefully joy that I feel and see while creating it. Because the lighting and scenes change moment by moment I always try to have a camera and sketch book with me. Once back at my studio the real works begins as I get out my paint, brushes, canvas or paper then decide how best to tell the story my way, and hopefully for the enjoyment of all.
