- Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY (1888PressRelease) January 30, 2012 - OVER 100 PILOTS PARTICIPATE IN SWISS INTERNATIONAL BALLOON FESTIVAL
Hot air balloon enthusiasts of all ages from across various parts of the world were present at the scenic snow-clad Alpine slopes of Chateau-d'Oex, in Canton Vaud, Switzerland to witness over 100 skilled balloon pilots or aerostiers from over 20 countries test their skills at the Festival International de Balloons recently.
An annual highlight at this Alpine resort town, the festival regularly attracts visitors and balloon fans in their thousands who also take the chance to enjoy the crisp wintry weather that envelops the area in January. The centre of attention at this year's fest was Egyptian celluloid superstar Hani Salama, who soared over the snow-blanketed slopes as a guest of Michel Parmigiani in the Parmigiani-Fleurier balloon, which was entered in the festival. This year was another signature year for Parmigiani Fleurier. For the past eight years, the brand has been the presenting sponsor of the Château-d'Oex International Hot Air Balloon Festival. This effort is part of the brand's desire to help continue support for one of Switzerland's most popular events, and to contribute to the growth of its international scope.
Along with flights of colorful balloons in different fun shapes and sizes, there were displays of hang gliding, paragliding, flying wing suits, parachuting and even aerobatic airplanes. To top off this spectacular display, a special "Night Glow" sound and light show complete with illuminated balloons, fireworks, music, dances, and even nighttime paragliders was held. The "Night Glow" this year was a tribute to the famous Swedish band ABBA. They became one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of pop music, topping the charts worldwide from 1974 to 1982 selling over 200 million records worldwide. Of course, for all those night birds out there, a huge party running until 4 am was held in the village on the weekend. Parmigiani Fleurier, one of the most prestigious Swiss Haute Horlogerie brands, was born in 1996 in the heart of Val-de-Travers. Thanks to the Sandoz Family Foundation and its dedication to preserving high quality Swiss expertise, Parmigiani Fleurier is today one of the few brands to design each model as a showpiece, created and perfected within its own network of workshops. Founder Michel Parmigiani had conceived the brand's spirit as far back as 1976 through his work restoring watchmaking artifacts and his unrivalled knowledge of the mechanical marvels of the past. Now represented in more than seventy countries on five continents, the Parmigiani Fleurier brand continues to find new opportunities for expansion.
