  • (1888PressRelease) August 30, 2013 - Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL), an affiliate of ExxonMobil, in contract sharing with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and Shell Nigeria Production Company (SNEPCO) has awarded international post-graduate scholarships to 13 sucessful Nigerian students.

The 13 beneficiaries have already secured admissions to study different engineering-related courses in various universities abroad. The scholarship awards cover full payment for tuition, accommodation and other fees as specified by the respective institutions, as well as provisions for personal upkeep.

Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, which held in Lagos, Mr. Udom Inoyo, Executive Director, Mobil Producing Nigeria, said: "It does not need to be pointed out that the academic system in Nigeria is in deplorable condition. Recent happenings alone are reflective of the state of affairs in the educational sector. The Academic Staff Union of Universities is once again on strike, putting the education of several thousands of students on hold indefinitely."

"Things cannot be allowed to continue as they are. The challenge facing our educational institiutions is something that must be addressed by everyone. At EEPNL, we are doing our part by offering these international post graduate awards to qualified students. We give them the opportunity to further their educational goals in an environment free of some of the challenges we are presently facing here in Nigeria," he added.

Mr. Inoyo also advised the sucessful students to put more efforts in the pursuit of their proffessional careers. "You have done well to come this far. But now, you must go even further. You must see yourselves as ambassadors of Nigeria and, above all, you must come back to make contributions to national developement," he told the students.

In her remark, Mrs. Iyabo Ayobami-Ojo, Deputy Manager, National Petroleum Investments Management Services (NAPIMS), while addressing the students, said, "We at NAPIMS have identified EEPNL's scholarship award as impactful if you desire higher growth in life. My charge to you is that you should go there, work hard and be good ambassors to ExxonMobil, to your parents and to your country, Nigeria."

The 13 awardees are all first class engineering graduates from different institutions across the Nigeria.
