Edwin McCain to Play at 2014 Cooper River Bridge Run Start and Finish Line
South Carolina singer songwriter is one of 50 bands to play along the 10K course.
- Charleston-North Charleston, SC (1888PressRelease) February 01, 2014 - Julian Smith, Executive Director of The Cooper River Bridge Run (CRBR) announced today that nationally acclaimed singer songwriter Edwin McCain has been added as the headliner to the lineup of 50 bands that will perform live along the 10K course of the Cooper River Bridge Run on Saturday, April 5, 2014. McCain will play at the race start line and will complete the race at the finish line as he plays with Charleston, South Carolina based country band, The Blue Dogs.
Last year the CRBR teamed up with "This is Noteworthy," a nonprofit created by The Music Initiative in Charleston, to put on the first curated music run in the United States. Twenty five bands performed along the course every of a mile, giving runners the options to take out their headphones and listen to the music. The CRBR has done it for a second time, increasing the number of bands and adding well-known musicians including this year's headliner, Edwin McCain.
Smith added, "Last year we took the Bridge Run to another interactive level with the addition of the bands that played along the course. This year we are thrilled to elevate this entertainment experience and have such a well-known musician as Edwin McCain play for all of the Bridge Run participants."
McCain is a Greenville, SC native who is known for his romantic His songs "I'll Be" (1998) and "I Could Not Ask for More" (1999) were radio top-40 hits in the U.S., and five of his albums have reached the Billboard 200. His song "I'll Be" was named one of the "Greatest Love Songs of All Time" according to VH1 and was voted "The Best Wedding Song Ever Written" by Dr. Phil viewers. The New York Times dubs McCain the "great American romantic," as his music is heartfelt and soulful.
The CRBR will also create a "Run with Me, Vol. 2" compilation CD of music from each of the bands that will soon be available for purchase at www.bridgerun.com.
