Edinburgh Dungeon celebrates a summer of plague
The Edinburgh Dungeon will be celebrating a summer of plague July 2nd - Aug 16th.
- (1888PressRelease) July 01, 2011 - Every Friday throughout the summer break will become 'Plague Day' with puss and pestilence galore as this attraction in Edinburgh transports visitors back to 1665, the year of the Great Plague.
Dungeon visitors will have a chance to meet the plague pit digger with his gruesome tales of how desperate victims of the Black Death tried to rid themselves of this horrifying disease; from sucking the puss out of each other's buboes, to bathing in their own urine.
Less squeamish visitors will come face to face with live leeches, an old medieval cure for many ills, including draining out the 'bad blood' of the plague.
Dungeon guests are advised to keep a weather eye out for rats which have been hidden around the Dungeons' dark corridors; the flea carrying scurriers spread the plague like wildfire.
Those who are able to count every rat are urged to report to the Dungeons gift shop to receive their reward from the Dungeons' 'Yucky Dip'.
With plague and infection rife throughout the attraction, it's unlikely any victims will escape unscathed. Visitors must prepare for their own buboes to appear as the Dungeon team make their rounds with free plague boils.
Plague Day will be held every Friday at the Edinburgh Dungeon from 2nd July to 16th August and is included in the entrance price.
