GIFA celebrates and honours the success and contributions of top individuals and institutions in Islamic banking and finance, and "has indeed emerged as one of the most celebrated awards in the Islamic banking and finance industry," said the GIFA founder and chairman of Edbiz Corporation, Professor Humayon Dar. "The nominations we have received this year reflect the positive interest from leading players in the industry." The top award, "Global Leadership in Islamic Banking and Finance Award" goes to a leading individual who has served the industry in a significant way.
Previous winners of this prestigious award are H.E. Tun Abdullah Badawi (former Prime Minister of Malaysia) and HRH Raja Dr Nazrin Shah (Regent of the Malaysian State of Perak and Financial Ambassador of Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre) in 2011 and 2012, respectively. "This year, we shall be honouring another towering personality in Islamic banking and finance, along with 20 other leading individuals and institutions from around the world," said Rizwan Malik, coordinator of GIFA ceremony.

This year's GIFA awards ceremony will take place at Dubai on November 26, 2013 on the occasion of WIRBC, which is a high-level forum for the exchange of insights and views by prominent industry leaders into Islamic retail banking. It is organised by the business intelligence provider, Fleming Gulf . "We are pleased to host GIFA 2013 on behalf of Edbiz Consulting, following the success of previous GIFA ceremonies held in Muscat and Kuala Lumpur," said Ranjith Paul, Managing Director of Fleming Gulf .
Winners of this year's GIFA will be honoured during an exclusive gala dinner to be hosted by WIRBC on the night of the first day of the conference. Attendees will include Islamic financial practitioners, current and former heads of states, government representatives, policy makers and other dignitaries from the GCC and the wider Asian region.

GIFA aims to recognise the success and achievements of institutions and individuals who have contributed to the growth of the Islamic banking and finance industry. Nominations are determined by:
An Awards Committee comprising of leading practitioners and thinkers in Islamic finance who nominate an institution in an appropriate category.
Institutions and individuals can nominate others in recognition of their work. A prospectus highlighting achievements with evidential reasons as to why the nominee deserves GIFA recognition would be requested by the Awards Committee. This document is then assessed and verified by the Awards Committee in light of a quantitative methodology.
Institutions and individuals can nominate themselves, providing a prospectus containing documentary evidence as to why they deserve the award.
