- (1888PressRelease) October 24, 2015 - Promoting renewable and alternative energy usage in the country, an eco-friendly national competitive event 'EFFICYCLE 2015' is inaugurated today at LPU campus. Near 100 teams of top engineering institutions including IITs, NITs, ITS, Government institutions from across India are exhibiting motorized expertise of engineering students. Society for Automotive Engineering-Northern India Section (SAENIS) and Lovely Professional University have collaborated to host this event. The event is supported by Maruti Suzuki, Indian Oil Corporation and ICAT. LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, Pro Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal, Director ICAT Mr Dinesh Tyagi, GM ICAT Mr UD Bangale & DGM R&D Maruti Suzuki India Mr Jitendra Malhotra were Guests of Honour on the inaugural day.
DGM Mr Malhotra shared: "Through national level events like Efficycle-2015 (presently 6th in a row), SAENIS and Maruti Suzuki provide excellent opportunities to the students towards their skill building and sensitization for alternative energy sources as they get prepared to take up their role in the industry."
The three-day event will conclude on 18th October with 40 Kms competitive race among participating teams' effi-cycles. Inaugural day had two types of competitions-Static and Dynamic. For static, participating teams presented marketing strategy, design and cost evaluations of their respective effi-cycles. Under dynamic part different teams went for technical inspection and different tests for brakes, gradient, electric drive, acceleration, utility, and maneuverability.
LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal informed: "We anticipate that this collaborative effort will bring bright results for the innovative students. I feel proud while sharing that LPU is already having a very efficient SAE Collegiate Club-LSCC at its campus. LSCC has participated in many national and international events including 'India International Trade Fair' and 'Auto Expo - The Motor Show' to showcase students' creative projects. It has also hosted many events including 'Electric Vehicle Solar Championship', 'International Go-Karting Championship' to promote the use of alternate source of energy in India. LPU students, under the supervision and guidance of their teachers, have already developed many multiple projects/vehicles running on the non-alternative source of energy like Solar Car, Smart Car, Driverless Car, ATV Car & Bike etc."
SAENIS serves for designing, manufacturing, servicing of vehicles & systems that work in air, space and on land. It has more than 7200 members comprising of stalwarts of the industry and members from the student community. One of the competing students from all women team of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University, Tanu Manchanda shared: "Our all girls' team is immensely pleased to compete with boys' teams who are supposed to be engineering oriented. We, too, grow playing with all engineering embedded toys right from our childhood. That passion has been nourished by all of us in choosing mechanical & automation engineering program. As a designer of the team, I have preferred aluminum frame for our effi-cycle to make it light-weight and streamlined to win the competition."
