- (1888PressRelease) September 10, 2011 - To commemorate the dedication of the new Flight 93 National Memorial (NM) in Shanksville, PA, Eastern National, Flight 93 NM's cooperating association, is releasing a series of limited edition commemorative items. The proceeds from the sales of these commemorative items will support interpretive and educational programs at Flight 93 National Memorial.
The Flight 93 National Memorial was authorized by President Bush in 2002 to memorialize the passengers of United Flight 93, which crashed in Shanksville, PA on September 11, 2001. The brave passengers of Flight 93 overpowered four al- Qaeda terrorists who hijacked the plane after departing from Logan International Airport in Boston, MA. The passengers prevented the terrorists from reaching their intended target. Forty people were killed on Flight 93, in addition to almost 3,000 who were killed during attacks at the World Trade Center in New York, NY and at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Construction on a permanent Flight 93 National Memorial began in 2009, and its dedication will take place this weekend, September 10- 11.
Eastern National has developed several limited edition products to commemorate the dedication of the new memorial. Items include a collector's coin, double struck with the Flight 93 logo on one side and an artist's rendition of the memorial on the reverse side. There will also be a lapel pin and embroidered patch available with the Flight 93 logo. Additionally, there will be a postcard with an artist's rendition of the memorial available.
