Eastern Michigan's Flight Program Slashes The Cost Of Learning To Fly
New FAA Part 141 certification allows EMU's Aviation Flight Program to slash cost by at least $9,000!
- (1888PressRelease) July 12, 2010 - YPSILANTI - While today's aviation flight students at Eastern Michigan University may be climbing to new heights in their airplanes, the cost of their training won't. In fact, Eastern's Aviation Flight Program has just announced an unprecedented reduction in the cost of its flight training.
"This allows us to be more competitive in attracting students, helps reduce costs, and turn aviation students out into the workforce," said Morell Boone, dean of EMU's College of Technology.
"With so many of our students struggling financially to stay in school, we decided to do something about it," remarked Alex Bloye, the program's director. "I know that this reduction will be significant for our students and for those considering a career in flight."
The cut comes as a result of a recently acquired Part 141 Federal Aviation Administration certification that calls for strict adherence to highly structured training guidelines and regulations while reducing the required number of flight hours for completion. This reduction lowers a student's flight training costs by up to $15,000 and accelerates program completion time.
The news comes on the heels of the historic freeze on tuition and room and board costs for the 2010-2011 school year approved by the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents.
According to Bloye, "We're pleased that the FAA has recognized our flight school with this certification, which will also provide more financial aid opportunities for our students. This news couldn't come at a better time for Southeast Michigan."
The EMU Aviation Flight Technology Program is the largest collegiate flight training program in Southeast Michigan and is Michigan's only Cessna Collegiate Center, an association with the Cessna Aircraft Company, the world's largest producer of single-engine piston aircraft. Graduates of EMU's aviation program have launched successful careers flying in nearly every sector of aviation including passenger and cargo carriers, corporate flight services and the military.
