Dyslexia Action and Assistive Solutions combine forces for BETT 2016 to offer potential solution to address UK literacy concerns
Dyslexia Action and Assistive Solutions will showcase their complimentary literary solutions as a one-stop-shop for schools, institutions and individuals alike at BETT 2016 in January.
- (1888PressRelease) January 11, 2016 - In answer to recent concerns surrounding literacy levels in the UK, Dyslexia Action and Assistive Solutions will be pairing up at the 2016 BETT exhibition to showcase their two standalone computer-based literary solutions as a potential complete solution for those struggling with literacy. £81.312 billion is estimated to be lost to the UK economy each year through illiteracy, according to a 2015 report.
Dyslexia Action's product, Units of Sound, is a second chance literacy programme aimed at helping all individuals from the ages of 8 to adult, who have difficulties with reading, spelling, memory and writing skills. It uses multi-sensory teaching methods via a cloud-based computer programme that can be accessed at school, at home or anywhere with internet access, promoting independent learning and building on literacy skills.
WordQ+SpeakQ is an easy-to-use literacy tool that provides Word Prediction, Speech Recognition and Spoken Feedback. SpeakQ is an add-on that provides forgiving on-demand speech recognition; it is designed for those who can type but have trouble with writing and spelling.
Schools are facing increasing pressure to improve literacy levels. However, they sometimes lack the specialist tools or resources to help pupils and teachers combat failing literacy. When the two products Units of Sound and WordQ+SpeakQ are used in conjunction with each other, the package becomes particularly attractive to helping improve school literacy difficulties. The two software packages dovetail to offer reasonable adjustments for those with learning differences, whilst at the same time providing literacy improvement. Both products empower student independence and offer potential school cost savings in the areas of Exam Scribes and teaching resources as students gain the confidence to work by themselves on improving skillsets.
Units of Sound and WordQ+SpeakQ have also both been effectively used to help ESOL learners to get to grips with the English language.
David Baxter-Williams Managing Director of Assistive Solutions comments: "Units of Sound and WordQ+SpeakQ can be life changing. We are truly excited to show these unpretentious tools to BETT visitors."
Margaret Rooms, Head of Units of Sound Development concurs: "I think that Units of Sound and WordQ+SpeakQ complement each other very well. Units of Sound offers students the possibility of developing their literacy skills independently and at their own pace, whilst WordQ+SpeakQ offers the benefit of assistive technology to support curriculum access. We are looking forward to showcasing these two great products at BETT 2016."
