Dunes To Partner With Visit Newport Beach For Day-Long "Lighting Of The Bay" Nov 29
Ice Sculpture Wonderland, 30 Tons of Snow With Sledding, Giant Santa on Throne Carved of Ice, Choir-Off, Live Performances, 1 Million+ Lights Among Festivities.
- Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) November 01, 2014 - For more than 2 decades, Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina has hosted its Lighting of the Bay, where Santa flips a switch to alight 50 Christmas trees in NewportBay as a way to kick off the holiday season. This year, the resort is teaming with Visit Newport Beach to make it a daylong event with 30 tons of snow for kids, sledding, Ice Sculpture Wonderland featuring a giant Santa on his throne carved of ice, live performances, food and beverage offerings, a Christmas tree lot and, most importantly, 1 million+lights in and out of the bay to make it the most spectacular such event in the nation.
On Saturday, November 29 from 1 p.m. - 9 p.m., families are welcome to the free festivities that begin with tours of the Ice Sculpture Wonderland featuring pieces carved by noted artist Roland Hernandez. The live music begins at 4 p.m. with OC Song & Dance performing before a video wall of dynamic images and continues with a "Choir Off" between Corona del Mar High and Newport Harbor High Schools. Throughout the day, a Polar Express train will take youngsters on an adventure around the resort.
The actual Lighting of the Bay, where Santa rides in on a paddleboard to help a special guest and Dunes Vice President and General Manager Andrew Theodorou flip the switch, will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the presentation of the motion picture, "Polar Express" that will be shown on the beach. Guests will enjoy free s'mores, popcorn and hot chocolate while an adult "Christmas Cheer" area has been designated for those seeking to enjoy specialty cocktails and other holiday spirits.
Guests may purchase their Christmas trees right on property where Nobles, Nordmans and Grand Firs ranging from 3' to 10' will be available.
