Dundee to run UKIERI Work Placement Programme helping UK graduates enter the Indian marketplace

Graduates who take part in the UKIERI Work Placement Programme are the leaders of tomorrow and their participation in this programme will create a bond between the UK and India which will be of mutual benefit to both countries in the years ahead.

    UKIERI has entrusted the University of Dundee and Indian company Sannam S4 to to lead and deliver this new Government initiative to help UK graduates experience living and working in India, and gain an understanding of one of the world's fastest emerging economies.

    Applications for upto six-months work placement will open on 15th October, 2012. The role of the University of Dundee is to recruit recently qualified graduates for the Work Placement Programme from across the UK and where they will also be enrolled on the University's Global Internship Graduate Certificate (India).

    Professor Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University, said, "This is an exciting opportunity for UK graduates who enrol on our graduate certificate programme to gain invaluable work experience in an emerging global economic powerhouse.

    They will also have the opportunity to explore India, one of the most vibrant cultures in the world and boost their employability when they return to the UK."

    New Delhi headquartered Sannam S4 specialises in helping overseas companies get established in the Indian marketplace: its role in the new programme is to identify work placements for the graduates across a wide range of industries and cities, and ensure students get the most from their experience professionally, culturally and socially.

    Sannam S4's CEO Adrian Mutton, who is based in New Delhi, said, "When it comes to the true commercial potential of India we're only just beginning - as evidenced by the fact that 20% of the world's population now lives here.

    About UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI):

    The UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) started in April 2006 as a five year initiative with the aim of enhancing educational links between India and the UK. It is a multi-stakeholder partnership programme supported by Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, British Council, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, The Scottish Government, Department of Learning-Northern Ireland, and Welsh Assembly. British Council, apart from funding the programme is also the delivery partner for UKIERI.

    In recognition of its substantial achievements over the past five years, the programme has been extended for another five years from 2011 to 2016. Both the government of UK and India are co-funding UKIERI and private sector partners from India and the UK will also join in to support the programme. UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) is being implemented with the aim to bring forth a unique initiative that strengthens the bilateral relationship between India and the UK and set an example of best practice in international cooperation. The initiative is working towards developing programmes that meets the priorities and needs of both India and the UK and bring about a systemic change in the educational sector of both India and the UK.
