Dublin's Past in Pictures
Local author details the rich history of Dublin through over 200 vintage images.
- Columbus, OH (1888PressRelease) October 31, 2014 - Although the Irish theme has played an important part in the shaping and building of Dublin, Ohio, this town was influenced by settlers of many different heritages. Dublin, a new book by Nancy Richison, uses over 200 vintage images to provide a reference point for how Dublin evolved to be the city it is today.
Richison details the early years of the town, which features Benjamin Sells' first home and a cabin he built in 1809. Dublin highlights the turn of the century and the notable families that helped build the city. Many of these families still live in Dublin. In 1970, the town grew rapidly with the construction of Interstate 270, the arrival of Ashland Chemical Company, and the Muirfield Village Golf Club and residential community built by Jack Nicklaus.
Dublin showcases how infrastructure was updated to support the growing community and illustrates the commerce in Dublin through the decades. Although Dublin has experienced many changes and growth throughout the years, Richison's book focuses on the Dublin of the past, its founding families, and the tenacity that molded the modern city that Dublin has become.
Highlights of Dublin include:
- How many of the buildings from Dublin's early days are featured and are now repurposed.
- A historic tribute to Jack Nicklaus' Memorial Tournament.
- Images of the Online Computer Library Center, which began in 1967.
