Dress for Success Miami will kick off its yearlong celebration commemorating its 20th year with a dinner to honor Senator Gwen Margolis's 40 years in public service.

Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) January 14, 2014 - To kick off Dress for Success Miami's yearlong celebration, on Thursday, January 23, the organization will honor Senator Gwen Margolis for her 40 years in public service. The event will commence with a cocktail reception and silent auction at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. The celebration will be held at the Hilton Bentley Miami Beach, 101 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139.

In conjunction with Dress for Success's 20th year Anniversary, Senator Gwen Margolis will also be celebrating 40 years in public service. She began her public service career in the Florida Legislature when elected to the House of Representatives in 1974 then re-elected for three additional terms. Her career in the Florida Senate began in 1980. There, she was appointed to chair the Finance, Tax and Claims Committee, and later the Appropriations Committee, where she helped lead the state out of budgetary crisis. On November 20, 1990, Senator Margolis became the first woman to serve as president of any Senate in the Unites States of America. Senator Margolis has received numerous awards for her leadership and dedication to the community. She has also received several statewide awards from the Florida Chamber of Commerce including the "Economic Development" award and the "Legislator of the Year" award. In addition, she has received the "Good Government" award from the Dade County League of Cities and the "Glass Ceiling" award from the Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women, and been honored by the Women's Hall of Fame.
The evening will include red carpet entrances, silent auction, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, open bar, dinner, entertainment and much more.
