Dr Yessis Says Proper Technique To Get Kids Running And Keep Kids Running
Dr. Yessis, legendary biomechanist believes kids have to be taught proper technique in order to keep children interested in running into adulthood.
- (1888PressRelease) May 06, 2011 - Escondido, CA - Dr. Michael Yessis, the preeminent biomechanist in the United States, believes it is important to teach children proper running technique that will also translate into an interest in running. An interest in running as with any physical activity can lower a person's risk of obesity and many other weight-related diseases in both childhood and adulthood when exercise is combined with a proper diet. However, in order to sustain a child's interest in running, proper technique that lowers risk of injury and keeps the activity fun is essential.
Dr. Yessis explains that in order for children to get enjoyment and satisfaction from any sports activity it is necessary to develop the ability to execute the skill well. The more effectively the skill is executed, the more satisfaction and fun anyone can get from any physical activity, but especially children. Many of the well-known marathons around the country offer a children's fun event centered around running with only one goal, which is to get kids running. Dr. Yessis notes, "This is a commendable goal with which I am in full agreement. It should be noted that such events take place in many major marathons across the country. They are all done with the same objective in mind…get more kids running."
In order to encourage children toward physical activity like running, it is important to remember that children need to have their attention captured and positive reinforcement to continue any activity. Therefore, providing the tools for children to excel in running is essential to keep their interest levels high. Dr. Yessis believes running should be fun and as a result will help childhood runners become adult runners. Without proper techniques, "I know many youngsters who get turned off on running because they are required to do it. They consider running a boring and unproductive activity," according to Dr. Yessis.
However, young runner enthusiasm does not have to be lost. If young runners are taught how to run more effectively and if their physical abilities are developed, it would enable them to run more effectively. This positive reinforcement could assist any child in keeping interest and continuing to hone their own skills thanks to proper technique. Armed with the proper technique, many children will continue their enthusiasm for running into adulthood.
During his fifty plus years of working with athletes, Dr. Yessis has successfully improved athletes in basketball, football, soccer, baseball, track and other sports. Most notable is the improvement in sports technique. He is considered this country's foremost expert on sports technique.
