The Toral Family Foundation Gears up to Provide Florida Clinicians a Comprehensive One-Day Program on Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).
- Jacksonville, FL (1888PressRelease) May 16, 2013 - On October 4, 2013, The Toral Family Foundation will host the "TBI: Changing the Game Conference" - an event to educate, inspire and connect medical professionals on the topic of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and it's relevancy to all practicing clinicians. Sanjay Gupta, MD, chief medical correspondent for CNN is set to deliver the keynote speech at the event.
The Toral Family Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization based in Ft. Lauderdale, aims to collaborate with the healthcare community to improve the lives of all individuals with brain and spinal cord injuries through research, education and access to resources.
The one-day program will provide CEU credits as well as a forum for physicians, nurses, case managers, therapists and other medical professionals to learn from leading experts on Traumatic Brain Injury, share insights and ideas, and initiate community solutions to understanding and effectively caring for individuals with TBI's. Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the integral role(s) they can play in the care of the TBI patient and improving the field as a whole.
Held at the University of North Florida campus, the conference will bring together diverse professionals within the medical field to share perspectives on TBI's in our community, while providing a platform for clinicians from around the state to connect and take action. The event is being produced in partnership with committee members: Dr. Joseph Tepas, Dean for Clinical Informatics, Chief, Division of Pediatric Surgery, and Chief Medical Information Officer at Shands Jacksonville; Dr. Andrew Kerwin, Chief of Division of Acute Care Surgery at Shands Jacksonville; Dr. Phillip Aldana Chief of Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Shands Jacksonville; Dr. Jerry Bridgham, Chief Medical Officer for Wolfson's Children's Hospital; and Dr. Cynthia Beaulieu, Program Director of the Brain Injury Program and the Pediatric Program at Brooks Rehabilitation Center.
The program panelists include physicians, therapists, neuropsychologists, and an attorney who will be sharing insights into how the rising number of TBI's affects their professional roles and our community, methods and practices they can adopt in their relevant practices to help improve the lives of these individuals, and what is currently being done state-wide to address these issues.
The keynote speech for the conference will be delivered by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, multiple Emmy-award winning chief medical correspondent for CNN and author of three best-selling books. Dr. Gupta is a practicing neurosurgeon and plays an integral role in CNN's reporting on health and medical news for Anderson Cooper 360°, CNN documentaries, and anchors the weekend medical affairs program. In addition to his work for CNN, Gupta is a associate chief of neurosurgery at Grady Memorial Hospital and regularly performs surgery at Emory University and Grady hospitals.
