This is a wonderful role to play and I am delighted to support this effort.
(1888PressRelease) December 18, 2012 - David Giammittorio, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., a founder of the Physician & Midwife Collaborative Practice, has been invited to become a member of the Steering Committee for the 2013 Women's Tower Campaign, associated with the Inova Alexandria Hospital Foundation. The campaign aims to raise a total of $2.5 million towards the cost of renovating the Women's Services area.
"I am delighted to have been asked to join the Steering Committee for this worthy project," said Dr Giammittorio. "The Committee will be meeting on several occasions through 2013 to ensure the fundraising efforts are well planned and organized in advance. We hope to raise 50% of the funds needed to renovate the Women's Services area, a building that dates back to the early Sixties. This is a wonderful role to play and I am delighted to support this effort."
The new Women's Tower will be in the Inova Alexandria Hospital. The plans include four floors of services. The 1st floor will house the Brock Perinatal Diagnostic Center, which will see the current amount of space expanded from 2,770 square feet to 5,400 square feet. The 2nd floor will contain the labor and delivery floor, while the 3rd floor will house post partum patients. Finally, the 4th floor will be home to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as the Women's Specialty Unit.
"Various plans are in place to ensure the existing areas are upgraded, renovated or re-planned to make better use of the space," Dr Giammittorio explained. "The Tower elevator will also be brand new, offering a private and secure entrance that is watched over by security staff at the hospital. All in all this campaign will be an inspiration that will allow the Women's Tower to be brought into the 21st century. As a result it will provide modern, fresh and state of the art services for all those who require them."
It is hoped the project will be fully completed by December 2013. With fundraising and marketing for the plans well underway, the Inova Alexandria Hospital can look forward to opening the doors to its newly renovated Women's Tower in just over a year from now.
