- (1888PressRelease) April 03, 2013 - Gurgaon,- DPGITM Engineering College conducted a blood donation camp at its campus. The camp was jointly chaired by Mr. Gopi Chand Gahlot - Ex Deputy Speaker, Haryana and Mr. Rajendra Gahlot - Chairman, Ch. Pratap Singh Memorial Trust. The camp was organised in association with Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital. Event started in the presence of Dr. Joshi, Dr. Arora, and Dr. Veena Doda, from RML Hospital. More than 100 students and faculty participated in the event. More than 200 units of blood were donated during the camp.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman- Mr. Rajendra Gahlot said, "Blood donation is considered as one of the most appreciable and valuable service. This camp is a matter of bliss and pride for us. We will definitely organize blood donation camps in future also". He also acknowledged the blood donors for their precious support in this noble act and said that donors should be hailed as heroes as the blood donated by them may save many lives.
Dr. Veena Doda said, "Donating some units of blood, may save someone's life without generating any problem to donor's body. In fact, it refreshes our system by activating the bone marrow in order to replenish the blood loss, resulting in production of new red blood cells."
Girls and boys equally participated in the camp. Doctors said that most of the girls were found to be anaemic. It is due to deficiency of vitamin C and iron. Whenever symptoms like loss of appetite, weakness, frequent dizziness, breathing problem, and headache occur, it is advisable not to miss a doctor's visit. Iron-rich food such as peanuts, dried beans, dried peas, mustard, and turnips help increase blood volume. Besides these red meat, fish, and chicken etc. are also beneficial. Vitamin C is important as it helps our body to consume more iron which has beneficial effects. So, we should include Vitamin c rich food also like oranges, orange juice, grapes and grapefruit juice, tomatoes and tomato juice, strawberries, potatoes, green peppers, cabbage, raisins, melon, and watermelon. Teachers along with students participated actively. Priyanka (student) said that this camp gave her the opportunity to contribute to society. Doctors' advices were also beneficial for all.
