Douglass Colony Group proudly accepted the "Best Specialty Contracting" Award for NREL RSF II at ENR (Engineering News-Record) Mountain States' Best 2012 Projects award ceremony on November 6, 2012 at the Denver Marriott in Denver, CO.
- Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) November 08, 2012 - Douglass Colony Group certainly had to think outside of the box when it came to the RSF II project in terms of materials used, fabrication methods, and installation procedures. In order to meet the strict natural materials requirement, Douglass Colony elected to use Rheinzinc, a totally natural material (99% recycled) that maintains an average lifespan of 200 years in the Colorado climate. All flat seam wall tiles were custom fabricated in our 70,000 sq.ft. fabrication facility to meet the strict sixteenth of an inch variation in building construction. Douglass Colony also installed the flashings and unit for a passive solar wall. These solar walls act as a solar air heating system by pre-heating the freshly ventilated air using the sun and as a result reduce heating costs and green house gas emissions. When all was said and done, Douglass ended up designing, fabricating, and installing over 8,000 Rheinzinc wall tiles and installing a passive solar wall unit on the RSF II project in order to help it achieve a LEED Platinum rating.
The ENR Mountain States Best Project awards recognize award-winning projects within the states of Utah, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, North Dakota and South Dakota. A panel of seven judges, comprised of architects, general contractors, and subcontractors, reviewed 104 entries (highest award submission record to date) and selected category and merit award winners. This is the 12th year ENR Mountain States has held the Best Projects award competition.
