Donavan Takes Viral Videos From Time Waster To Life Saver
Actress/Singer Leverages Her Fame to Help the "NOH8 Campaign ".
- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) May 25, 2011 - We've seen them all at some point. The keyboard-playing cat. The skateboarder who wipes out hilariously. The talent less singers who love to sing - at the top of their voices. They're viral videos, and they clog up the internet to the tune of millions of views per day.
"Viral videos are a lot of fun, and I know there's a time and place for fun," says Darcy Donavan, rising actress and singer, "but I wanted to use the concept of viral videos to support something more important." Donavan felt that all those eyeballs watching a kid pretending to use a light saber represented an untapped audience that could be engaged for more important causes.
"When I found out about the NOH8 Campaign, I knew I wanted to get involved," Donavan says, "because the people at NOH8 truly are bringing hope to others that feel isolated and alone." The NOH8 campaign is a photo project and silent protest against California's Proposition 8, which banned same sex marriage.
The campaign was founded by Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley, who have watched it grow from just an idea to a phenomenon taking in over 13,000 faces, as well as a large and growing number of celebrities. Well-known faces in the collection of photos include Pete Wentz, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Mark Hoppus, Tara Reid, Taylor Dayne, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Kathy Griffin, Kim Kardashian and Kimora Lee Simmons.
Since its inception, the NOH8 Campaign has grown to oppose hate in all its forms, and to support the fight against bullying, which Donavan says "can hit gay teenagers especially hard. I feel like I have a personal stake in this as well, since I was bullied as a kid, just for being different," the actress and pop star asserts. "I can relate to the problems they are up against."
Donavan has been supporting the NOH8 Campaign for some time, and has used her Darcy TV brand for extensive video interviews with the founders of NO H8. The Campaign has placed Donavan's interviews on their website, which will help the videos gain additional viewers all over the world and "go viral." Anyone can view the interview online at http://www.youtube.com/user/darcydonavan . Included are former Spice Girl Mel B, actor and comedian Tommy Davidson, and Kyle Richards from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, all strong supporters of NOH8.
