Domestic Violence Advocate, Connie Waring, to Present at National Conference
Talk Focuses on Subtle Clues to Identifying Violent Relationships.
- Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN-WI (1888PressRelease) July 27, 2012 - Domestic Violence Advocate, Connie Waring, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming National Conference on Domestic Violence to be held August 1-3, 2012 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The three-day event provides educational activities and presentations for individuals whose work focues on the domestic violence community -- including human services workers, medical professionals, religious and social organizations and law enforcement.
Based in New York City, Waring is a sought-after speaker and keynote presenter at local and national meetings. Her talk "She's Still Acting That Way" stems from a personal encounter with domestic violence while Waring was a Master's student at San Diego State University. The presentation focuses on the subtle clues that alterted Waring and her husband, Tom, to the fact that Waring's close friend, "Linda" was in a violent relationship. In addition, the presentation details the courageous risk the Waring's took to intervene in the situation, ensure the abuser's arrest and prosecution, and help "Linda" attain supportive services needing for healing.
"Seeing a friend victimized by domestic violence changed my life and clarified my mission," says Waring. "I know now that my purpose is advocating for women in violent relationships and sharing our experience to help support agencies understand the warning signs of violent relationships. I have completely shifted my professional focus from business to human services to dedicate myself fully to this essential area of need."
Waring holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and a Masters of Science in Accounting (MSA) from San Diego State University. She has worked as an accounting professional in the hospitality and biotechnology industries. She maintains memberships in the Professional Accounting Society of America and American Association of University Women. She is married to Tom Waring, an excutive with PricewaterhouseCoopers and lives in New York City with their two small children, Jessica and Tommy. She has presented "She's Still Acting That Way" to over 50 law enforcement agencies, human services organizations, and social justice and womens' rights groups. She works as a Domestic Violence Advocate with Safe Horizon in New York City.
