Domaine de Trevallon wine gets top marks from Vins de France
In 2011, winegrower Eloi Dürrbach has, once again, unveiled an outstanding Domaine de Trévallon red wine to connoisseurs the world over.
- (1888PressRelease) May 20, 2011 - Red Trévallon 2008 is made from the traditional blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Syrah grapes. The 21-day fermentation process is entirely free of sulphur and yeast. The two kinds of grapes are dealt with separately in medium- and large-sized barrels, over a two-year period, and then refined traditionally using egg whites. The 2008 vintage was bottled on 9 December 2010 and went on sale in early 2011.
Despite a difficult year in 2008, marked by a very rainy spring, mildew and a boar invasion, the grapes ripened correctly. The result is an excellent 2008 Trévallon that is fruity, with notes of cherry, blackcurrant and raspberry. It offers a generous taste with subtle and velvety tannins.
This fruity, spicy wine is best served with delicate game, such as venison with Grand Veneur sauce, or with doe fillet. It is also superb served with lamb in basil or grilled lamb chops with stuffed aubergines. While this wine can be enjoyed straight away, it will continue to mature over the next 20 years.
The Domaine de Trévallon is one of the most prestigious estates in the Provence region. The estate is located in the Alpilles mountain range. It is renowned for the excellence of its red wines, vins de gardes (wine for ageing), and for its rich, sophisticated white wines.
In 1973, when Eloi Dürrbach took over the family farmhouse, he did so with the firm intention of making wine on the property. He planted his first three hectares with Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, which had vanished from the Baux-de-Provence region of south-eastern France since the devastating phylloxera outbreak of 1870. The decision to replant a grape that had been abandoned by local winegrowers is what gives Trévallon wine its characteristic style today.
The first vintage of this outstanding wine was produced in 1976. Now, 31 vintages later, 20 hectares of vines are planted on stony clay and limestone soil. The philosophy of the Trévallon estate has remained the same - upstream work on the soil, and neither pesticides nor insecticides.

The 2008 red vintage has been awarded top marks at wine-tasting sessions: it was given marks going from 18 to 20 (out of 20) by Vins de France magazine. The 2008 red vintage has been on sale since early 2011.
