Discrimination Free Zone: Silencing Discriminatory Language One Conversation at a Time
New Non-Profit Organization Committed to Ending Discriminatory Language.
- (1888PressRelease) April 12, 2014 - Miami - Author, Attorney and Motivational Speaker Tali Raphaely has created the Discrimination Free Zone Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit aimed at eliminating derogatory language and the harm those words cause. Now on a mission to silence discriminatory language one conversation at a time, Raphaely is fueling a new dynamic social movement against the use of discriminatory language.
The organization promotes the use of language, free of slurs and stereotypes, by recruiting and engaging supporters and advocates to create Discrimination Free Zones. Zones are easy to create, and can be formed by individuals, corporations or groups demarking a safe and discrimination free space - whether on their person or their surroundings. Discrimination Free Zones are identified with branded wristbands, shirts, hats, stickers, posters, and other items that are available to be purchased via donations at www.discriminationfreezone.com
"It appalled me that discriminatory comments were being made so often in this day and age, that I accordingly resolved to help end such language," says Raphaely. "This is a personal passion. I am working to create a global community that's more socially conscious and free from discriminatory language; and I believe that our simple visual message can be the first step towards silencing discrimination. Additionally, I ask everyone to take our pledge and please share it on your Facebook and Twitter pages for your friends, family and social network to see: "I pledge not to use discriminatory language against others because they are different from me. Join the movement. #dfreezone."
By wearing Discrimination Free Zone apparel an individual establishes a Discrimination Free Zone everywhere he or she goes. Before wearing or displaying any of these items, supporters pledge not to use discriminatory language based on race, color, gender, nationality, religion, sexual orientation, age or disability. Individuals wearing or displaying the Discrimination Free Zone items are clearly but tactfully informing others that they'll be offended by discriminatory comments and will not participate in conversations containing such damaging remarks.
To meet its mission, The Discrimination Free Zone Foundation, a non-profit organization, is funded by items sold via its website along with private and corporate monetary contributions. In addition, the Foundation is committed to ending discriminatory language through awareness, education and training; focusing on schools, companies and community groups. As part of its comprehensive educational efforts the Foundation has created a how-to guide for ending discriminatory language. The guide, which offers tips and strategies for reacting to offensive comments, was produced primarily for schools and community groups, but is available for anyone to download at no charge.
