This situation has caused immense stress, exacerbating her challenges as a disabled scholar, an unemployed first-time mother, and the wife of a 100% service-connected disabled USMC veteran.
"I just want to complete my DBA in peace," Cynthia expressed. "I've been a scholar for 15 years and have never encountered such issues. I am baffled and devastated by this balance despite having financial aid and good credit for Graduate PLUS loans."
Despite numerous attempts to resolve the issue with Capella University's financial aid department, Cynthia has received conflicting and unclear responses. She has documented misleading statements and inconsistencies in communications from the university, further fueling her determination to seek justice.
In a communication from the Financial Aid Support Team on February 16, 2024, Cynthia was assured she had no balance due and was not in jeopardy of being dropped from courses. However, this statement contradicts her current situation. The email detailed her scholarship was applied resulting in expected refunds and a clear financial plan. Yet, Cynthia now faces a balance, raising questions about the management and transparency of her financial aid.
"This situation is a total racket. Higher education should not be a burden, especially when you can't even find a job," Cynthia stated. I am now reaching out to other students who might be experiencing similar issues and attorneys who can help us fight for our rights."
As a millennial, Cynthia has used AI to secure scholarships and business funding, demonstrating her innovative approach. Despite her accomplishments, Cynthia carries $224,195 in student loans and has been unable to secure employment for almost two years, relying on refunds for personal income and to keep her 501c3 non-profit Assuaged Foundation running.
